Ecology and Natural Systems
Credit Categories
An ecosystem assessment of the areas that includes the following topics: topography, soils, vegetation& habitat, hydrology & aquatic ecosystems, tree mapping, endangered species, flood zones, and hydrology. The findings of ecosystem assessment have informed the planning and design.
Data
Green Space
To provide easily accessible green space, and minimum area of green space must be no less than 7212 square feet (670 square meters). A minimum of 70% of the dwelling units must have a green space within 1/2-mile (800 meters) walking distance.
Date
Construction Activity Pollution Prevention
Implement an erosion and sedimentation control plan for all construction activities, including but not limited to construction of roads and highways, transit systems, water and wastewater systems, energy systems, waste management systems, buildings to be undertaken by the city development authorities. The plan must conform to the erosion and sedimentation requirements of the 2017 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Construction General Permit (CGP) or local equivalent, whichever is more stringent.
Data
Natural Resources Conservation and Restoration
Natural Resource Acreage maintain natural resource acreage at 861 square feet per person (80 square meters per person). Or
Maintain natural resource acreage at 11.5% or more of total jurisdictional land area. Natural Resource Conservation and Restoration Plan adopted within the last five years or develop one based on the study carried out under NS Prerequisite: Ecosystem Assessment.
Date
Light Pollution Reduction
Achieve a sky glow at or below 4 in the Bortle Dark-Sky Scale where the Milky Way is still visible in residential areas, or a Sky Quality Meter reading of 21.2 or greater. A minimum of 70% of the street lighting in the city or community should meet the requirements of section on Glare and Sky-Glow requirements of ‘ANSI/IESNA RP-8-14 Roadway Lighting’. Adopt a lighting ordinance for the city or community conforming to the Section II to VI of the Model Lighting Ordinance (MLO), 2011 developed jointly by the International Dark Sky Association and Illuminating Engineering Society.
